Tyendinaga blockade arrests include four Akwesasne residents

BELLEVILLE – Four people from Akwesasne are among 10 protesters arrested Monday morning as O.P.P. enforced a court injunction to stop a native blockade near Tyendinaga, east of Belleville.

East Region O.P.P. say they were “faced with aggressive actions by some individuals” and responded with “minimal use of force” in order to make arrests.

Among the 10 people taken into custody are four from Akwesasne. They are:

  • Corey Jay Jocko, 33
  • Harley Moses David, 31
  • Harry Joseph Benedict, 30
  • Nicholas Kolbasook, 25

Each of them is charged with mischief and disobeying a court order under the Criminal Code of Canada as well as a charge of entering land where line work is situated under the Railway Safety Act.

Kolbasook is also facing an additional charge of resisting arrest.

They were released and will appear in a Napanee court next month.
