CORNWALL – A former Upper Canada District School Board chairman and local businessman has been hired as the executive director of the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce.

The business advocate announced today (Monday) that Greg Pietersma has been hired.

His first day is today (Jan. 13).

The chamber says he will “lead the chamber into the 2020s with a fresh perspective on local business issues and a keen interest in seeing the bottom line of the local economy improve.”

Pietersma has owned and operated The Pietersma Tinworks in Chesterville for nearly three decades and spent three terms on the school board – eight years as chairman.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce team,” Pietersma said in a statement.

Pietersma takes over for Lezlie Strasser, who left the organization in September after 32 years with the organization.
