SD&G – A rainy, windy and slippery weekend is in store for SD&G.
A special weather statement is in effect for the region as a combination of rain and freezing rain, backed by strong winds, will hit the area Saturday and continue into Sunday.
Environment Canada says light rain or drizzle this afternoon (Friday) will get heavier Saturday morning as the temperature drops from 8 degrees to minus 1 – changing that rain to freezing rain at some point Saturday afternoon.
Up to 25 millimeters of rain (0.98 inches) is expected.
“Several hours of freezing rain may occur until temperatures climb to above freezing again on Sunday,” the forecaster said.
The wind is also going to pick up too with gusts to 70 kilometers an hour on Sunday.
Ice buildup, plus the strong wind, could lead to broken tree branches and power lines.
Weather warnings will likely be issued as the weather system gets closer.
