CORNWALL – The Cornwall Regional Task Force seized 94 kilograms of unstamped tobacco as well as a Jeep and a boat during a border enforcement patrol this month.

The CRTF officers saw people in a boat offloading packages at the Water Street boat launch on Nov. 7 and putting them in an SUV. The cops moved in as the Jeep was trying to leave the scene.

The four suspects ran away but they didn’t get far as three of them were arrested after a police search. There’s an arrest warrant out for the fourth suspect.

The SUV was loaded with boxes of contraband tobacco – 94 kilograms (207 pounds) – which was seized, along with the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 16 foot center console aluminum boat.

The four accused in their early 20s – all from Akwesasne, N.Y. – are facing federal Excise Act charges. They could also face Ontario Tobacco Tax Act charges, the RCMP said.
