AKWESASNE – Akwesasne police are trying to figure out who was firing off a semi-automatic gun in Snye last week.
Akwesasne Mohawk Police say they received numerous calls around 8 p.m. on Wednesday last week (Sept. 18) about a semi-automatic weapon being discharged in the woods at the end of Wade Lafrance Memorial Road and Toby Roundpoint Road.
Both roads run parallel and are dead end streets with the woods at the end of both streets. It’s about 10 kilometers northeast of the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort.
While officers were searching and talking with residents in the area, they say an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) sped off from the area but officers weren’t able to identify the machine or its driver.
“Discharging a firearm near homes can endanger the safety of community members and property,” AMPS said in a statement released Thursday (Sept. 26).
