Update 10:45 a.m. Tuesday: MP, Tory candidate stepped in to solve Martintown mail problems.
MARTINTOWN – Residents in Martintown have had a few crazy days wondering about the future of their mail service.
The Canada Post outlet in the South Glengarry village is at KCee’s Convenience at 18530 County Road 18.
The problems started Thursday when the post office location was abruptly shut down (Sept. 5) after Canada Post did not renew its contract with the convenience store, according to a post on the store’s Facebook page.
Residents were faced with a choice – either have their mail delivered to their civic address or open up a post office box in Apple Hill – nine kilometers away, according to a notice from Canada Post Manager Patrick Lavictoire.
But the store announced today (Monday) that it was “happy to report” that mail service would resume on Wednesday.
A spokesperson from Canada Post said they would not be able to respond to a request for comment until Tuesday. A staff member at KCee’s Convenience said the owner wouldn’t be able to return a call until Tuesday.
Check back Tuesday for an update to this story.
