Schmitz will be NDP candidate for SDSG

SDSG – A Cornwallite, raised in South Stormont, will be representing the New Democratic Party in the upcoming federal election.

Kelsey Schmitz’s family roots run deep as her great-grandfather, Romeo Rochon, opened a butcher shop in Cornwall – Rochon et Fils.

Her immediate family is in Cornwall. (Corrected from an earlier version of this story which stated Newington)

Schmitz is the program manager of Expeditions to Communities at the Students on Ice Foundation, which focuses on youth projects and community advocacy in northern communities. She’s also a softball coach.

The NDP will make it official during their nomination meeting on Sunday, Aug. 25.
