Commuter bus company plans Ingleside expansion

LONG SAULT – A commuter bus service, already serving South Dundas, is looking to expand into the western portion of South Stormont.

Evans Bus Lines has made an application to the Ontario Highway Transportation Board to expand their commuter and charter bus to Ingleside and potentially Long Sault.

If approved, it would branch off a route already running between Morrisburg and Ottawa.

“This service could attract new residents to Ingleside that commute to Ottawa and support occasional trips for appointments,” Planning Director Peter Young wrote in a report to council.

The eastern part of South Stormont is already served by 417 Bus Lines.

“Can’t see this being a bad thing for sure. It’s great,” Mayor Bryan McGillis remarked.

A resolution was passed by South Stormont council to support Evans’ application to the transportation board for their licence.

Coun. Jennifer MacIsaac asked about a timeline for the service to be up and running.

While the company has to go through the approval process, “it sounded like, as soon as they could,” Young answered.
