CORNWALL – Local boxing champion Tony “Lightning” Lewis recorded another victory Friday night (June 21) at the Cornwall Civic Complex.

He beat Adrian Estrella of Mexico after 10 rounds. Luis is now 28-3-0 with 10 knockouts.

In a Facebook post, Luis called the fight “probably the toughest victory of my career” but that it was “an honour to fight him (Estrella).”

While Luis won, he did not capture the World Boxing Council Continental Americas lightweight championship belt due to a weight issue – he was two pounds over the 135 pound weight limit on Thursday.

“I hit a wall at 137 (pounds) and could not shed the last 2 pounds. The new arrangements meant I can’t win the belt, but he can still lose it if I won and it would become vacant. My new motive was “If I can’t have it, neither can he,” Luis wrote.

As for what’s next, the Cornwall boxer has his sights set on the WBC Continental Americas title for the Junior Welterweight (140 pounds), which is currently vacant.
