Update 1:30 p.m. Thursday: Truck driver identified in deadly Highway 417 crash
NORTH GLENGARRY – A section of the eastbound lanes of Highway 417 are closed this morning (Wednesday) after a truck driver was killed in a crash involving two tractor-trailers.
Provincial police say an eastbound tractor-trailer was on a stretch of the highway between McCrimmon Road and County Road 34 around 7:45 a.m. when it slammed into the back of another stopped truck in a construction zone.
The driver of the moving truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the stopped truck was not hurt, police said.
The driver’s name is not being released until family is notified.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
The eastbound lanes are closed between McCrimmon Road and County Road 34 and detours are in place. Westbound lanes are unaffected.
