South Stormont man charged in family abuse case

LONG SAULT – A South Stormont man is facing assault charges in relation to alleged acts of violence on other family members.

SD&G O.P.P. say the man is alleged to have assaulted his spouse, his step-son and his step daughter. Officers responded to a call shortly after midnight on Monday.

The accused was also under a probation order at the time, police added.

The young girl was taken to hospital by paramedics where she was treated for serious injuries. The young boy was not taken to hospital as his injuries were minor.

A 23-year-old township man is charged with two counts of assault, one count of aggravated assault and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

No names were released because it’s a case of domestic abuse. Typically, cases like this will also have publication bans placed on them by the Ontario Court of Justice.

Meantime, some citizens have planned a noon-hour rally outside the Children’s Aid Society building on Boundary Road in Cornwall, upset with the agency’s handling of the case.
