
CORNWALL – City firefighters are battling a house fire on Smith Avenue, near the Cornwall port of entry, this evening (Saturday).
The fire started in the two-storey home in the 30 block of Smith Avenue, next to Brookdale Avenue, around 5:30 p.m.
Flames could be seen shooting out of a ground-level window near the back of the house on one side while entire west side of the structure was engulfed in fire as firefighters arrived on the scene. The smoke could be seen by people several blocks away.
Cornwall firefighters were still working on putting out the fire as of 6:38 p.m.
Cornwall-SDG Paramedic Services is also on the scene as a precaution though paramedics have not treated anybody at the scene.

A section of Brookdale Avenue from Water Street to Second Street is closed to traffic.
