Schools closed, buses cancelled Wednesday

SD&G – As a winter storm bears down on Eastern Ontario, the region’s two largest school boards are closing schools and buses are cancelled.

The Upper Canada District School Board and the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario both announced in news releases Tuesday night that schools would be closed Wednesday (Feb. 13).

UCDSB spokesman April Scott-Clarke said they expect schools to reopen Thursday.

In addition to school closures and no bus transportation, Amber Laberge with CDSBEO said there would be no evening activities, including community groups using the schools at night. All open house events at the high schools are being rescheduled.

The French Public and French Catholic school boards have also closed all schools, daycare centers and the board offices Wednesday.

Wednesday will be the tenth day this school year that the buses have been cancelled.

A winter storm warning continues for the region with 25-35 centimeters of snow (9.8-13.8 inches) of snow expected before the storm moves on Wednesday afternoon.

Environment Canada says travel will be majorly impacted and local power outage are possible we the wind gusts to 60 kilometers an hour.
