Update 1 p.m. Tuesday: The westbound lanes of the highway have opened.
CURRY HILL – Provincial police say three truck drivers were injured – one seriously – after a chain reaction pileup in the westbound lanes of Highway 401.
It happened just after midnight this morning on a section of the freeway between Lancaster and Curry Hill.
SD&G O.P.P. say their early findings are the first truck was struck from behind by a second truck and then that second truck was hit from behind by a third.
The first two drivers were injured and the third was seriously injured. The injuries to the three men are all said to be non-life threatening.
Const. Tylor Copeland told Cornwall Newswatch there was another tractor-trailer on fire in the same area just before the triple-truck crash but it’s undetermined whether they are related. He said that will be up to O.P.P. Traffic Collision Investigators (TCI) to determine.
Copeland said the trucks were carrying non-hazardous goods.
The westbound lanes of Highway 401 have been closed between Lancaster and Curry Hill and detours are in place.
