Editor’s note: The story was updated at 11:45 p.m. to show the French school transportation consortium followed suit around 11:40 p.m. with what STEO did and cancelled their buses.

SD&G – With an extreme cold warning in place, school buses have been cancelled for Monday across SD&G.

The schools will remain open for those parents who can or will drive their children to school.

“Due to extremely cold temperatures and high wind chills expected tomorrow…all transportation for the Upper Canada District School Board will be cancelled. This is out of concern for the safety of students who would be waiting for buses in the extreme cold,” the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) said in a statement.

Since the bus transportation is a consortium, this will also affect English Catholic schools under the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario.

The French transportation consortium then cancelled their buses for French Public and French Catholic schools, issuing a notice on its website around 11:40 p.m.

The temperature Monday morning is expected to be around -24 but will feel like -34 with the wind chill.

This is the third weather-related bus cancellation this school year.
