CORNWALL – The operations director of the United Way is over the moon with year’s response to their signature fundraising event.
“We’re about 90 per cent sold out, so, a week before the event, that’s incredible because there are a lot of last minute purchasers,” Meagan Bingley told Cornwall Newswatch Monday.
There were 600 tickets printed for the 6th annual United Way Holiday Wine and Gourmet Tastings event, presented by Xplornet, at Nav Center on Saturday, Nov. 24, starting at 7 p.m. The tickets are $100 each and you get a $40 tax receipt.
“This year we have an ‘I Believe’ theme so it’s like the classic holiday feel. Chef Luc’s (Luc McCabe) menu will also reflect that, that classic holiday theme. We’ll have an oyster bar again this year. We’ll be in two rooms – the Bombardier Room and the De Havilland Room,” Bingley explained.
There will also be silent and live auctions as well as entertainment later in the evening with The Kealey All Star Band, otherwise known as The Dueling Pianos. “You should bring your dancing shoes. (Untied Way campaign chairman) Angie Baker mentioned her husband never dances and he was kicking off his shoes to them so it should be a great time,” Bingley said.
Over the last five years the event has raised over $225,000. Last year, around $63,000 was raised. “We expect this year to be no different. The United Way supports 14 local agencies and this is our signature event.”
You can get tickets at the United Way office at 55 Water Street or by calling 613-932-2051 or online on the United Way of SD&G website.
Cornwall Newswatch is the web media sponsor for the event.
