SOUTH DUNDAS – They came, they spent, they fished.

Now, the South Dundas Chamber of Commerce is asking the municipality waive its invoice for launch fees racked up during the Renegade Bass fishing tournament held early last month (Sept. 8-9).

In previous years, the chamber came to council ahead of the tournament and made a formal request to waive boat launch fees but that didn’t happen this year.

The amount is $960.

“The Chamber encourages events like the Renegade Bass Fishing Tournaments because they generate much-needed revenue to our local businesses especially our restaurants, accommodation establishments and gas stations,” President Tom Morrow wrote in his Oct. 1 request.

Morrow said the event is a “significant marketing opportunity” that was “well worth” waiving the fees.

Council will make a decision during its meeting at 6 p.m. at the South Dundas Municipal Center.
