CORNWALL – Fire has levelled a two-car garage in Riverdale.

Cornwall Fire Services was called to 1410 Leonard Avenue around 7:45 p.m. Friday and the garage was fully involved by the time they arrived.

Within minutes of firefighters getting water on the building, it collapsed. They were able keep the flying embers away from neighbouring homes.

“There was nobody in the garage. No one hurt, no injuries,” Platoon Chief Rob Cotnam told Cornwall Newswatch. “We were lucky because it was separated from the building so it was actually perfectly located (to put out the fire).”

The homeowner told Cornwall Newswatch her family was safe though they lost the contents of the garage which included her son’s dirt bike.

It’s not known at this time what caused the fire.

Firefighters were still on scene as of 8:30 p.m.
