ALBANY, N.Y. – A Quebec man is going to a U.S. prison for just over 11 years for conspiring to smuggle thousands of pounds of marijuana through Akwesasne.
Colin Stewart, 41, of Elgin, Que. (a rural Quebec community near the Trout River border crossing, north of Malone, N.Y.) was sentenced Monday in an Albany court to 135 months in prison.
He was extradited from Canada and then admitted to smuggling pot through the First Nation for distribution across the northeastern United States.
Stewart will also be on supervised release for five years after his prison sentence and also has to pay a $10,000 fine.
