Arrest in Cornwall bar stabbing

CORNWALL – Police in Montreal have arrested a suspect in connection to a June stabbing at a Cornwall sports bar.

Cornwall police say a man started being “belligerent” with a woman at Bill’s Sports Bar on Thirteenth Street West in the early morning hours of June 6 before she was hit.

Later, another fight took place outside the bar and the suspect is said to have stabbed a 31-year-old man multiple times with a knife.

At the time, the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Patrons nearby were met with gun-style hand gestures perpetrator before he took off, police said.

Montreal police arrested the suspect yesterday (Sept. 5) and Cornwall police went down to the Quebec jail to pick him up on a warrant.

Gyasi Burke, 36, of Chateauguay, Que. is charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, common assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, threats and two court breach for possession of a weapon and failing to keep the peace while on probation.

He was held for a bail hearing in Cornwall.
