More time sought for Purcell Road subdivision

LANCASTER – South Glengarry has asked the county to grant an extension to the developers of a 55 lot subdivision along Purcell Road in Glen Walter.

The developer – only known in documents as a numbered Ontario company – had a draft plan approval for the subdivision on the west side of Purcell Road behind the Cornwall Golf and Country Club.

That agreement in October 2015 was set to run out this fall (October 2018).

Right now, the land is mostly scrub and corn fields.

According to the plan, the lots would be around a T shape road development with two new roads – a small connector street to Purcell Road, named Samuel Drive West, and Nicklaus Boulevard. Nicklaus Boulevard would have a cul-de-sac at either end.

South Glengarry council has agreed to a three year extension after the developers asked for the extra time in July. The county has to formally sign off as the controlling authority over subdivision agreements.

While the township doesn’t know what the developers intentions are, asking for an extension would seem to suggest the builders are intent on adding homes behind the golf course.

The developer and the township also have a 10 year agreement to provide 47 water connections and 42 sewer connections to the subdivision.
