CORNWALL – A man was taken to Cornwall hospital with serious injuries after he was stabbed during a fight at a city bar overnight, police said Wednesday.
Police were called to Bill’s Sports Bar on Thirteenth Street West at Henry Street (in the strip plaza with the Pioneer gas station and Circle K) around 2:30 a.m.
“It is believed an altercation took place between two men. One man was transported to the hospital with serious injuries as a result of the altercation,” Cornwall police spokesman Stephanie MacRae told Cornwall Newswatch.
MacRae later confirmed one individual was stabbed though it’s not clear whether a weapon has been found.
The case is now being handled by the Criminal Investigations Division and the investigation is in its “early stages” as of 9 a.m.
Police investigators could be seen going through the contents of a pickup truck while several evidence markers were placed in the parking lot. The entire area in front of the plaza, including the gas pumps, is cordoned off with police tape.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the fight to call Detective Const. Ryan Campeau at 913-933-5000 extension 2468 or the anonymous tip line at extension 2404.
The assault is an isolated incident and MacRae said there is no concern for the safety of the general public.
At this point (11:36 a.m.) there is no one in custody, though the police are looking to speak someone deemed a person of interest.
