CORNWALL – Police are investigating a fire at a duplex on Race Street.

Emergency responders were called just before 11 p.m. Saturday to the building at 16-18 Race Street – the eastern section of the street, which skirts the north edge of Legion Park.

Cornwall police Const. Dan Cloutier told Cornwall Newswatch a man was taken to hospital and treated for what are described as minor injuries.

There is no risk to the neighbourhood or the public in the vicinity of the fire, police said.

While the Cornwall Fire Service initially tackled the fire, the case has been turned over to police, Cloutier added.

The street was cordoned off for part of the evening for an investigation.

The fire is being treated as suspicious, which is routine when the cause is not immediately known.
