CORNWALL — Tony “Lightning” Luis defeated Giovanni “Impacto” Straffon after going the full 10 rounds Saturday night.
Luis was energized by the hometown crowd with chants of “Tony, Tony, Tony!” against the fighter from Mexico.
Luis had a couple of very strong hits right out of the gate in the first round. His first three rounds were strong before Straffon started coming back in the fourth round.
A flurry of strikes from Straffon in the sixth round had the crowd worried. But Luis held his ground to win points with the judges.
This extends Luis’ winning streak to six fights with a record of 25-3-8 KOs.
He also retains his WBA-NABA Lightweight Championship title.
The boxing match at the Cornwall Civic Complex featured a number of other bouts.
“Lethal” Larry Fryers picked up the win in a welterweight match.
Oleksandr Teslenko defeated Nick Guivas in the heavyweight fight.
