Scam involving heavy equipment sales

OTTAWA – Provincial police are warning you about about a scam artist in the U.S., posing as a company selling heavy equipment over the internet.

The O.P.P. Anti-Rackets Branch said they received a complaint from an Ontario-Quebec company with experience in North American equipment sales, which received an unsolicited email for equipment for sale in the U.S.

The email contains details of the machinery and photos, which is being sold below market value.

But investigators say the fraudster used information gleaned from legitimate auction and heavy equipment sale websites to make it seem legit.

Once bank information or wire transfer information to the United States is complete, the seller doesn’t follow through with delivery, police said.

The O.P.P. says the fraudster operates under two personas:

MAQ Trading Inc.
