Charges laid in Wednesday city-wide drug bust

CORNWALL – Five Cornwallites have been charged in connection to Wednesday’s series of drug searches across the city.

Investigators believe all of the accused are part of an organized crime group.

Four homes (new number, previous report was five locations) were searched on Wednesday where police seized cocaine, meth and marijuana.

There was also a homemade shotgun and a set of brass knuckles seized.

Facing various drug-related charges are:

  • Cynthia Desjardins, 29, Cornwall
  • Jacques Bazinet, 24, Cornwall
  • Claude Filion, 47, Cornwall
  • Matthew MacWhirter, 32, Cornwall
  • Sandi MacFarlane, 55, Cornwall

All five were held for bail hearings.

The busts on Wednesday (Aug. 23) saw members of the O.P.P., O.P.P. canine unit, RCMP and CBSA canine unit search homes, including one on Alice Street.
