Beer watered down; water main sinkhole opens in Lamoureux Park

CORNWALL — A water main rupture saw a sinkhole open up in a craft brewing tent in Lamoureux Park Saturday night.

The hole opened up in the #1 tent, home to 4 Degrees Brewing Co., Crafting A Cure, Rurban Brewing Co. and Stray Dog Brewing Company, minutes after the tent closed, according to witnesses.

Summer Beer Fest patrons also found themselves standing in several inches of water around 9 p.m. after the rupture. In some cases it was “up to their ankles” (quote corrected from earlier version that said “knees”) said one woman on site Sunday morning.

Water was rushing down the entire length of the park, with water pooling around the Rotary bandshell.

Cornwall police were able to come in and quickly tape off the area while Cornwall parks staff supervised the area overnight.

The sinkhole is about 6 feet wide but a larger area around the hole appears to be unstable.

It’s believed public works will be working on the water main Monday.
