Team Denmark training at Benson Center for WJC

CORNWALL – Team Denmark will be training at Cornwall’s Benson Center in the week leading up to the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The team will be calling the Benson Center home from Dec. 15 until Dec. 23. Currently, the NHL has a number of Danes including Frederik Andersen (Leafs), Nikolaj Ehlers (Jets), Lars Eller (Capitals) and Francs Nielson (Red Wings).

The practices from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. are open to the public and are free.

As for the exhibition game at the Cornwall Civic Complex, Facilities Rental Coordinator Janice Robinson announced Tuesday that tickets are already on sale at the complex box office or by calling 613-938-9400.

Tickets are $15 each and groups of 20 or more are $13 each.

The exhibition game between Sweden and Slovakia will be held at the Ed Lumley Arena on Monday, Dec. 19, 2016 at 7 p.m. with doors open an hour before the game.

“It is wonderful that Eastern Ontario residents will have a chance to see fast-paced international hockey at the Cornwall Civic Complex,” Mayor Leslie O’Shaughnessy said. “I’m looking forward to seeing the stars of tomorrow.”

The World Junior Hockey Championship starts Boxing Day in Montreal and Toronto.

The preliminary schedule sees Canada playing Russia on Boxing Day at 8 p.m.
