INGLESIDE – Firefighters from across the region will be putting their skills to the test this weekend in the 10th annual Ingleside Firefighter Challenge.

The event at the Ingleside Shopping Plaza starts at noon Saturday with a barbecue, beer garden and activities for the kids before the actual challenge at 2 p.m.

It’s a test of skill, endurance and teamwork and is meant to simulate the first couple of minutes of a fire. The competition will include forcible entry, hose pulls, victim drag, ladder climbing and more.

Organizing committee spokeswoman Jennifer MacIsaac told Cornwall Newswatch there will be a lot of first-time participants participating in the challenge.

“This year as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Ingleside Firefighter Challenge we’ve gone bigger with the children’s activities and bigger with our entertainment lineup,” MacIsaac said.

Also new this year, some teenage aspiring firefighters will be trying out the course at 1 p.m.

The live entertainment will include Put it in Park, Kilts, Riffs and Spurs and Hadrian’s Wall starting at 5 p.m.

The free event is sponsored by over 50 local and area businesses.
