CORNWALL – The Crown has dropped an assault charge against a woman accused of assaulting a nursing home resident at Woodland Villa in Long Sault.
Lana Gautreau, 54, was charged with one count of assault following an O.P.P. investigation in April 2015 at the long term care home on Mille Roches Road.
Assistant Crown Attorney Jacqueline Masse withdrew the charge in a Cornwall court this morning (Tuesday) based on the uncooperative nature of the elderly complainant.
The woman, said to be 85-years-old, refused to show up in court last month prompting Judge Franco Giamberardino to reluctantly issue an arrest warrant.
At that time, Masse said the resident was well aware of the court case.
“I can indicate she’s well aware of the trial date, arrangements were made to bring her here (to court). She lives in a nursing home and arrangements were made with the nursing home and yet she has refused. She cannot be forced into the vehicle against her will,” Masse said last month.
