CORNWALL – A company with a Cornwall plant is helping people forced to flee their homes in Fort McMurray, Alta. as a massive wildfire chars the area.

BASF Canada is donating $10,000 to the Canadian Red Cross.

It’s also matching personal donations from all its employees – including those in Cornwall – up to $1,000 per employee.

“Our thoughts are with the people of Fort McMurray and those affected by the wildfires,” said Marcelo Lu, president of BASF Canada.

BASF also has plants near Edmonton (Nisku) and Calgary (Blackie) and services a number of clients in northern Alberta.

The Cornwall plant on Wallrich Avenue, which makes chemicals for handling and molding plastics, has 30 employees.
