CORNWALL – The city started accepting applications today (Monday) for the latest round of the Ontario Renovates program.

The provincial government home improvement program gives forgivable loans of $16,000 over ten years for emergency repairs such as furnaces, foundations and roofs.

There are also accessibility grants up to $5,000 to put in wheelchair ramps or stair lifts.

In order to qualify, your gross household income has to be less than $40,000 to $60,000, based on your household size, and your home can’t be worth more than $180,000. Your property taxes, insurance and mortgage also have to be in good standing.

Since the program started in 2012, over 300 Cornwall and area families have tapped into Ontario Renovates.

The program is open to households in the City of Cornwall and the United Counties of SD&G.

Application forms are available on the city’s website and at the Social Housing Office on the third floor at 340 Pitt Street.

The applications are open until all the money is gone – in Cornwall’s case, there’s $1,427,058 available.
