ST. REGIS, Que. – A woman has died after being found “unresponsive” in a home here Monday night.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service (AMPS) was called to the village around 7:30 p.m. after the woman was found unresponsive in a bedroom.

She was transported to hospital by ambulance where she was pronounced dead.

The woman has been identified by police as Tammy Patricia Oakes, 40, of Akwesasne.

In a release, the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne says the cause of death won’t be known until an autopsy is completed but police don’t believe the death is suspicious.

Police also believe there is no threat to the public, according to the MCA.
