Man charged in Monkland gas thefts

MONKLAND – It didn’t take long for police to nab a suspect in a pair of gas thefts from a gas station in North Stormont.

Two days after SD&G O.P.P. release an image from security footage of a man stealing gas from the Monkland Esso on Highway 138, they made an arrest.

Police are crediting the tips gleaned from the media exposure to this case, which led them to an arrest.

The 40-year-old suspect from South Stormont was “intercepted” while driving on County Road 43 yesterday (April 20).

He is charged with two counts of theft under $5,000.

The suspect was released with a promise to appear in court July 5, 2016.
