CORNWALL – Despite being knocked out of the first-round of the LNAH playoffs, the team’s owner is reassuring fans the River Kings will be back next year – with their support.
Cornwall lost 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night, as the Jonquiere Marquis swept the River Kings in four games.
The final game saw fewer than 700 fans in the stands, a recurring problem during the beginning of the season before the team started recording some wins.
After his first full season, owner Steve Moreau told the Standard-Freeholder he plans to keep the team, suggesting that if the team can’t be successful it will be disbanded rather than sold.
Moreau has indicated the team has about $100,000 to its name right now and needs about $700,000 to operate properly, through sponsorship and ticket sales.
