LANCASTER – South Glengarry firefighters came to the aid of their Quebec counterparts over the weekend after a massive lumberyard fire.

The South Glengarry Fire Service sent five of their firefighters from the Lancaster station to the Rona Hardware and Lumber Yard in Les Cedres, Que. on Sunday.

It was part of a mutual aid request from the Coteau du Lac, Que. fire department.

The firefighters were tasked with putting out hot spots as well as restocking and returning Quebec emergency equipment to have it ready for additional calls.

“South Glengarry Fire Service is proud to assist our neighboring communities when called upon for service,” stated Fire Chief Vic Leroux, “In this particular case, our help was certainly appreciated by both Quebec Senior Officers and the firefighters at the scene.”
