KEMPTVILLE – The Catholic school board for Eastern Ontario has accepted a staff recommendation to consolidate its schools in Long Sault and Ingleside.

St. George Catholic School in Long Sault and Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School in Ingleside will be merged at the Ingleside location.

The board got word that provincial funding is available to expand Our Lady of Good Counsel.

The expansion will consist of a two room permanent addition.

There are 66 students in grades five through eight at St. George and 131 students in kindergarten through grade four at Our Lady of Good Counsel.

The amalgamation is expected to be done in time for school in September 2016.

Under provincial law, the board will offer to sell the St. George property to a list of “preferred agencies” before it’s sold on the open market.

A public meeting for parents had already taken place on Nov. 30, according to the school board.
