New Cornwall elementary school named

CORNWALL – The city’s newest elementary school will be called Bridgewood Public School.

The board of directors with the Upper Canada District School Board voted on the name at their meeting tonight (Wednesday).

A naming committee had held at least two meetings this fall to narrow down a selection of names.

The top three choices – Bridgewater, Bridgewood and Sir John Johnson – were put to a vote of the students.

The 50,000 square foot school at Marleau Avenue and Nick Kaneb Drive is under construction and is slated to open in September 2016.

It will accommodate nearly 600 students from East Front and Gladstone Public Schools.
