CORNWALL – An apartment complex on Alice Street has moderate fire and water damage after a fire Monday afternoon.

Cornwall firefighters, police and paramedics were called around 4 p.m. to the complex at 211 Alice Street, just north of Montreal Road.

The apartment has give units and the fire started in the lower-middle unit, where black smoke was pouring out the front door and an upstairs window.

Neighbour Justin Rainey said one of the units had two dogs inside and that’s why the tenant got into an argument with firefighters about forcing their way inside.

“The cops let him take the dogs out back because…that’s why he was making such a big deal ,” Rainey said.
