CORNWALL – A woman was taken to hospital and a young child treated at the scene of a three vehicle crash near the city’s downtown core.
Firefighters, police and paramedics were called to Second Street, east of York Street, just after 4:30 p.m. during the height of the afternoon drive.
Cornwall police told Cornwall Newswatch the driver of a Honda CRV had slowed for traffic congestion or the traffic light along with the car behind it – a Kia Rondo.
According to police, a Chevy Aveo slammed into the back of the Rondo, pushing it into the back of the CRV.
A woman passenger in the Rondo was stabilized by firefighters and paramedics and then taken to hospital by ambulance for what are being called minor injuries.
A young girl in the Aveo was treated on the scene by paramedics for a possible seat belt abrasion, said police.
The driver of the Chevy Aveo has been charged with careless driving.
Westbound traffic was temporarily halted and then forced to travel in the center turning lane until the vehicles were towed away and the scene cleaned up at 4:57 p.m.
