CORNWALL – Based on a move by Coun. Elaine MacDonald, council has rescinded its decision on a drug contract for Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge.

“We had a clear legal opinion (an in-camera meeting before the council meeting) that gave a lot of us some direction and the promise of clarification in the future. As a council we’ll look at local preference in the future…we’ll at least explore it,” MacDonald said.

Council had approved a motion on Sept. 14 to not accept a contract for a Nepean pharmacy because a majority of councillors wanted to give preference to a local company.

Classic Care Pharmacy was supposed to be awarded the contract based on a review by an independent committee made up largely of employees of the lodge.

That contract was awarded tonight (Monday). The decision has no financial ramifications on the city as the payments are between the lodge and the Ontario government.
