FINCH – An actual item written about in a 1930s diary will be on display at the International Plowing Match later this month.

Coleman MacDonald, 80, from Williamstown recounts the early story in the diary of his mother, Daphne, from Aug. 1, 1936, which marked a pinnacle point for the North American farmer – buying a tractor with rubber tires.

The purchase price at that time? $1,408.

The 1936 McCormick-Deering W30 tractor was used as a steady, reliable workhorse right up until the 1970s – until it was restored earlier this year.

The tractor will be on display at the plowing match in Finch from Sept. 22-26.
