SMITHS FALLS – Local golfing star Brooke Henderson has been granted an LPGA Tour membership.
Tour commissioner Michael Whan said Tuesday the membership starts immediately for the 17-year-old, who posted her first victory last week at the Cambia Portland Classic.
She was faced with the prospect of having to qualify for the remainder of the tournaments in the 2015 season.
The remainder of the 2015 season will be considered her rookie season.
According to LPGA policy, a golfer 18 and over can apply for a Tour membership, but those 15 to 18 may be granted special permission to apply for membership by petitioning directly to the Tour commissioner.
Henderson petitioned to attend qualifying school last year, but was turned down.
