CHESTERVILLE – A North Dundas business has been destroyed in an early morning fire.
Township firefighters and O.P.P. were called to the Papa Gus Bar and Grill on Queen Street in Chesterville around 3 a.m.
The building was fully involved by the time emergency crews arrived.

Many lamented the loss on Facebook, saying it was “the only bar for miles” and had “the best pizza in the area…sad day for Chesterville.”
“It’s a busy spot. It’s one of our only bars we have in North Dundas, if not one of the very few we’ve got so it’s definitely going to be missed,” Mayor Eric Duncan told Cornwall Newswatch.
Duncan was hoping to touch base with Gus tonight (Monday) and the township will be there to help them out, whatever they choose to do.
“It was a popular spot for people to hang out and socialize,” Mayor Duncan said noting that many hockey teams would gather there during winter.
Duncan said the Chesterville bar location was newer – less than 10 years old – after the owner had a similar establishment in Finch.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office will attending the scene to determine the cause and an investigation by the SD&G O.P.P. Crime Unit is also ongoing.
