GLEN WALTER – Cornwall Newswatch was among fellow businesses, writers, artists and community leaders recognized Friday night during an awards ceremony.
The Seekers Choice Awards at the Cornwall Golf and Country Club also helped out a local charitable organization at the same time.
The event, in its fifth year, gave out awards in various categories. Here are the award recipients:
- Best Home Based Business – Fairy Sweet – chocolatier with the ability to print on chocolate
- Best New Business – Cornwall Newswatch
- Best Existing Business – Fantasy Realm – comic book store and organizers of CAPE
- Best Musical Artist – The Lost Boyz – an 80’s tribute band
- Best Literary Artist – Thom Racine – retired police officer and writer, whose recent work is Moe The Toe – Never My Dream
- Best Visual Artist – Chad Coleman
- Best Performing Artist – Jane Hennessy Craibe – owner of Beat Central Dance Company
- Athlete of the Year – Kaedyn Martin – eight-year-old who has excelled in soccer and baseball
- Volunteer of the Year – Paul Poirier – organizer of Bikers Against Brain Cancer
- Seeker’s Contributor of the Year – Marlene Baker
The winners were chosen through a tabulation of online votes earlier this year.
The event raised at least $3,200 for Carefor Hospice Cornwall and the total doesn’t include funds generated from the silent auction.
The Seeker Managing Editor Julia Lucio says the event continues to grow every year after raising $2,500 last year (for another organization).
