AVONMORE – The province’s police watchdog has assigned a half dozen investigators to looking into a police chase north of Avonmore.
SD&G O.P.P. tried to stop a pickup truck on Sixth Road around 2 a.m. Saturday during a criminal investigation when the driver fled, resulting in the officers giving chase.
Special Investigations Unit spokesman Monica Hudon tells Cornwall Newswatch four investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
Hudon says their preliminary information shows the pickup truck driver received facial injuries after his pickup truck crash on County Road 15 and Dewer Road, which police described as “moderate.”
The driver was treated at Ottawa Civic Hospital.
Steven Charette, 25, of Ottawa is charged with assault, uttering threats, dangerous driving, flight from police, assaulting a police officer with a weapon and three counts of failing to comply with a court order.
A bail hearing for Charette continues Wednesday (June 10) in Cornwall.
Hudon says it’s difficult to determine how long the investigation will take as each case is different and has its own requirements and procedures.
