SD&G – If your long weekend travel plans take you state-side, the Canada Border Services Agency is warning you to plan ahead to avoid delays.
The CBSA says it’s best to avoid peak traffic periods.
For the Cornwall port of entry, that will be Sunday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on the holiday Monday from noon until 8 p.m., where wait times could exceed 35 minutes.
At the Prescott port of entry, the peak times are today (Friday) from 3-4 p.m. and from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Victoria Day Monday when the wait could be more than an hour.
The agency also says you can speed up the process by making sure you have all your documentation and receipts handy. Your exemptions are $200 in goods duty- and tax-free after 24 hours and $800 after 48 hours.
You can follow real-time updates on wait times on Twitter for Cornwall @CBSA_CWL and Prescott @CBSA_PCT.
