CORNWALL – Employees at a downtown salon are helping a Cornwall family deal with a major hurdle in their young son’s life.
Britney Truelove recently got the devastating news her 14-month-old son, Alex Lazore, was diagnosed with a stage four brain cancer (anaplastic astrocytoma).
Melissa Cameron Mainville and her colleagues at The Loft Salon are donating all the proceeds of their work this afternoon (Tuesday) for such things as washes, cuts and styles.
They are also accepting donations at the salon at 137A Pitt Street until 6 p.m. today and will be doing another round of fund raising hair work on May 30 starting at 12 p.m. All names of everyone who donates will be entered in a draw for a $100 gift certificate to the salon.
Melissa says Britney Truelove has been been her client for roughly five years. “All of us have got to know her little boy. He comes in with her…and we’ve all grown to love him,” she tells Cornwall Newswatch.
Melissa says Britney is at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) right now and is staying at Ronald McDonald House while Alex undergoes chemotherapy.
“She (Britney) has a daughter in town here so the driving, I thought one little thing, whatever, it counts to give the family some support,” Melissa said. “It’s long term…it’s going to be six weeks they’ll be staying there with the chemo and radiation so four weeks have already gone but it’s six more weeks to go,” she said.
Melissa says 100 per cent of all proceeds they make today (until 6 p.m.) and on the afternoon of Saturday, May 30 will be going to the family to help defray the costs associated with the cancer treatments.
“So many families right now are affected by cancer and regardless of who it’s helping and small donation, a big donation…it makes a difference,” added coowner Chantale Leger.
The fundraiser is supported by everyone at The Loft – coowners Milaine Boyer and Chantale Leger and stylists Alex Besner, Jessica O’Brien and Melissa Cameron Mainville.
