HOGANSBURG, N.Y. – The bridge to the United States from Cornwall Island and Cornwall has opened ahead of schedule.
On Friday morning, the Seaway International Bridge Corporation (SIBC) believed the span could be closed for up to 48 hours.
But workers were able to repair the shift in alignment to an expansion joint in the south tower of the south channel bridge ahead of schedule.
The bridge opened just after 11 a.m. Saturday morning after another inspection of the repairs by an engineer.
“The SIBC is proud of the maintenance crew’s efforts to ensure the safety and security of all patrons on the Three Nations Bridge Crossing as well as our unblemished safety record. SIBC wishes to thank the public for their patience,” the firm said in a release.
