RUSSELL – The walking dead made the judges come alive at the Sears Ontario Drama Festival Seaway District Competition, leading a Cornwall school to the next level of competition.

The play by St. Lawrence Secondary School called 10 Ways to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse was one of two plays to advance to the Eastern Ontario Showcase on April 20-25 in Perth.

It features two narrators watching a TV movie marathon of zombie films and the action is played out on stage.

“I think the comedic nature of the play and St. Lawrence’s energetic performance and comedic timing certainly got the adjudicator’s attention,” says Festival Coordinator Kevin Kennedy.

But it wasn’t the only Cornwall school to move up.

The other production going on to the next round is Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School’s rendition of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

There were 10 productions in the competition from April 8-11.
